Hi everyone! The HUS has two Race and Equity (BME) Officers (Represent and Equity) for 2026/27 Selasie and Faridah.
We’re committed to making Homerton a welcoming, inclusive and supportive community for Black and ethnic minority students.
Coming to Cambridge can be a big change, and for some of us, navigating a new environment while being away from familiar cultures and communities can be challenging. Throughout the year, we hope to create opportunities to meet people, celebrate different cultures and identities, and build a community where everyone feels represented and able to be themselves.
We’ll be organising events and throughout the year, from social and cultural events to collaborations with other societies across the University. Cambridge has a vibrant BME community, with societies such as the African-Caribbean Society (ACS), Islamic Society, Punjabi Society and many others, so there are plenty of opportunities to find communities and connect with people beyond Homerton too.
Whether you’re looking to meet new people, get involved in events, or simply have someone to talk to, we’re here for you. You don’t have to identify with a particular culture or have any previous involvement in BME societies to get involved, everyone is welcome.
Make sure to follow our Instagram to keep up with our events, plans and initiatives throughout the year! https://www.instagram.com/hom_bme/
If you have any ideas, questions or concerns, feel free to get in touch with us. We’d love to hear from you and help make Homerton a place where everyone feels that they belong!
